How to set Exam for preschool

.

Hi welcome to another preschool teaching post. I'm Rissa. A Cameroonian wife, mommy and preschool teacher.

In this blog post, I will be showing you how I set exams for preschool kids

Well, I will be showing you how I set exams for my nursery 1 kids but the format is basically the same for Pre-nursery, Nursery 1 and nursery 2.

Let's start.

Here is how the papers are looking, ready to be printed.

These are not all the subjects I set on but for now this is what I did for the day.

I was already getting tired after all the drawing and printing so I continued the next day.

There are a total of 14 subjects we set written exams on. Mathematics, Reading, writing, Sensory and perspective education, environmental education, health education, Citizenship, character education, I.C.T, Drawing and coloring, painting, Sign language, Handwork, and Safety education.

How I set the exams?

We set exams based on what we have been teaching the kids for that month. And we teach following a THEME OF MONTH. The theme of month for November is, THE FAMILY AND THE HOME. For this particular exams, we had to set following two themes. Last month theme which was THE BODY and November's theme, THE FAMILY AND THE HOME.

For Example, let's take a look at Health education.

We start by writing the " stimulus". That is;

PART A: There exist different types of items we use in taking care of the body.

PART B: There are 3 meals in a day which are breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The stimulus is basically there to tell the kids exactly what we are doing. It tells them what the topic is about before they can answer the questions.

Preschool is all about Identifying numbers, letters or objects that's why drawing is a must. They learn by seeing.

So the next thing to ask them to do is to IDENTIFY an object by either matching, coloring, putting an X on the object or circling.

The most important part of setting the exams is Drawing the objects to be identified. Make sure the kids can identify each items.

Most of the times what I do is, after drawing with a pencil, I  ask the kids to tell me what they see. If they identify the object correctly, I continue printing with a maker. But if they can't identify the object correctly, I erase and try to draw it better.

So there you go.. that is how I set my exams for my kids.

And here is how it looks like after they have finished writing.
