6 REASONS WHY YOUR WRITING SKILLS ARE PROFITABLE SKILLS IN 2023 | Why I Blog.

Here's a little backstory.

Writing has always been one of my hobbies.

Here is how it started.

Way back in primary school(class 7) we had a new pupil who came abit late to school. I think mid first term. she was a transfered student.

She was from one of those rich schools like " Daycare". Not the daycare we all commonly know now. Back then we knew "Daycare" was one of those rich schools where the kids spoke English so well and were all well mannered. If your parents were not civil servants, you couldn't possibly attend such schools. The school fees was above the paycheck of an average parent back then.

So she was transferred from "DAYCARE" to our school which was a baptist primary school. The school wasn't so bad but it was actually considered one of the ghetto schools back then. the school fees was moderate so most parents could afford it.

In class, you could even tell the difference from the way this girl spoke and how she behaved. Truth be told, I secretly admired this girl, infact I think the entire class including the teacher did because when it came to reading, the teacher would always pick her to read for the entire class.

She had a soothing voice and pronounced every single word well for her age. She also spoke only in ENGLISH which to us was bizarre back then because we commonly spoke in our local palang "PIDGIN".

Even though Pidgin was prohibited in the school, but for some reason, most kids felt uncomfortable speaking English including me because Pidgin was so normal for us.

On the other hand, this new girl only spoke in English which I think made the teacher love her.

Now I had this little competitive spirit in me. I wanted to be chosen by the teacher to read for the class. I wanted to be admired by my peers aswell.

So I started learning how to read well, how to pronounce words better.

I would try reading whatever I could find. I got tired of our textbooks and started picking papers on the road to practice.

Then from reading, I started writing short imaginative stories. I would give these stories to my friends to read. Sometimes I would even read for them.

Fast forward to secondary school, my passion for writing continued even though I was a science student.

I remember in Lower sixth, I gave one of my usual imaginative writeups to my classmates to read. It was a short valentine's day story. He loved it so much that he got it published in one of the school's magazine. I was so happy when I saw my work published on a real magazine even though his name was written as the author.

I didn't care. All I cared about was that my work could be read by many people. It just gave me that sense of accomplishment (lol).

The truth is, I wouldn't have dreamed of having it published if not for him. I was just glad my friend did.

Long story short, I took a break from writing when I got to upper sixth and eventually the university. I guess life just happened and my writing thingy took a back sit.

However, after university and eventually ended up hanging around the unemployment society for too long (which is the case for most people), I turned to the internet to help me out of my brokeness.

I started doing my research on ways to make money online, Blogging came right up amongst others like YouTube, freelancing, and affiliate marketing.

I didn't know what blogging actually was, so I again researched deeper into this online opportunity.

What is Blogging ?

Blogging is basically writing on a web page which gets published on Google.

There is no specific thing or topic you are supposed to write on as a blogger.

You can write about every and anything. Whether it's your daily life struggles, current news, gossips, advise, etc

This to me was the perfect opportunity because I have stories to tell, and I also want to keep my hobby alive. So what better way to do that if not with a blog.

Here are 6 reasons why I started Blogging.

Apart from the fact that writing has always been a passion for me, here are other reasons why blogging is the perfect exercise for me as a Cameroonian Woman which I highly recommend other women to try out.

1) Blogging helps me improve on my writing and helps me communicate better.

As a blogger, most times I do research and that means, I read other people's blogs aswell. By reading others blogs I usually come across new words, new vocabularies and I also fix alot of my spelling errors.

This does not only help me to creatively write each blog post.

The more I write, the more I improve on my writing and the more I can construct better sentences which definitely help me improve my communication

2) To share my thoughts, knowledge on any topic.

Blogging is the best way to to share your knowledge, ideas and experience to a wide range of people.

It's not just my friends family or fellow Cameroonians reading my posts but it is visible to anyone in the world who has data, phone or laptop.

3) To be active in the world of tech.

“Media literacy is necessary for the development of a country”.

4) To document whatever I learn so I can get back to it whenever I need it. It's basically like a diary.

Blogging to me is a way to document my experiences and keep it for future references. Most times we forget the things we've learnt if not done constantly so I blog to safe keep them so I can get to them whenever. Plus since it's digital, it your writeups are safe unlike with a book which might one day get missing or eaten by rats.

5) To Create a side income out of it.. Place wey money dey we go tryam😂.

Blogging is a great side hustle. You get paid by Google adsense when people read your write-ups. It is a big reason why I blog.

6) To gain some exposure in the tech community ofcourse.

Blogging is a perfect way to build a community for yourself online. You can get sponsorships from big companies and brands and also gives you some authority in your specific niche. Plus, you never know who is reading and learning from your words.
